The Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Memorial was established in 1942 by an act of Congress following the murders of DC police officers John Conrad and Lt. David T. Dunigan. The memorial fountain was built with funding from the citizens and business community of DC utilizing Italian immigrants and marble purchased in Italy. Sadly, by 2010, the fountain had fallen into disrepair. The nonprofit DC Police Memorial & Museum board of directors, led by founder, Lt. Don Blake (Ret.) worked to raise funds to renovate the fountain and build a new Memorial Wall on the site, inscribed with the names of all MPD officers who have died in the line of duty. It was dedicated on May 1, 2023.
